State Recertifies Tent Fabric for Fire Resistance

The flame-retardant certification for tents made with AERON 27FR fabric, provided by the state through the hospital preparedness program, has expired.

The State Fire Marshal has recertified this tent fabric through June 30, 2011.

The recertification certificate may be shared with local fire marshals if the fabric’s fire resistance is in question.

Background:

During the 2009-10 flu season, the use of tents to screen and triage patients required involvement by the State Fire Marshal (SFM), Local Fire Marshal, Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) and California Department of Public Health (CDPHi). Regulations and policies governing the use of tents have not changed for the 2010-11 flu season.

For more information on tent use, please refer to CDPH Licensing and Certification (L&C) All Facilities Letter (AFL) 09-39, issued October 30, 2009, and CDPH guidance on health care facility use of surge tents, issued January 20, 2010.
