CHA Hospital Preparedness Program

The CHA Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP) was established with funding provided by the federal hospital preparedness grant program. The program provided ongoing support to California hospitals and health systems in all-hazards disaster planning. Some of the primary CHA HPP accomplishments were: establishing the annual disaster planning conference for California hospitals; creating and maintaining this website; developing a variety of planning tools and resources to assist hospitals; developing training and conducting over 400 classes, drills and exercises; providing technical assistance and support to hospitals; providing hospital emergency management advocacy and representation to state, federal and local agencies and other activities.

This website was developed by the CHA HPP as a repository of emergency preparedness information, tools, and resources. 

Training Classes

The CHA HPP developed and provided a variety of training including but not limited to the following:  Hospital Incident Command System; Incident Action Planning; Exercise Program for Hospitals; Planning and Training for Active Shooter events and more. 

Tools & Resources          

The CHA HPP has developed many checklists and planning tools to assist hospitals with their planning.

Annual Conference

The CHA HPP established the annual disaster planning conference for California hospitals. The executive director coordinates this program and chairs the planning committee. The conference is the largest gathering of hospital emergency preparedness planners in the state. Attendees include hospital personnel, community partners, and state officials. Conference topics cover the full spectrum of emergency response topics relevant to health care facilities.
